Calling on you Mommy's for help

As most of you know or maybe you don't know - the baby I'll be having is Shakil and I's first baby. Shakil had been discussing on his blog about what I'll need at the hospital, etc. and Ayalguita posted a comment of items that will be needed for the baby and items that'll be needed for me. I just want to make sure that I have everything ready and if you mommy's have time and could post a comment with items you found that were a necessity, I'd appreciate it. Here's my list of things for baby thus far...

diapers
pajamas
daytime clothing
nice outfit to wear home
socks
caps
bibs
hand covers
pacifiers
diaper rash cream
baby blanket
baby towels
baby comb
baby washcloths
baby wash
baby lotion
burping cloths
small bowl for giving baby sponge bath

I started washing baby clothes, socks, etc. today and those tiny little socks are just precious!!! I'm so excited!!

**Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!!! :-)

Until later...

Bye for now.

Salams Tara!

I'm also a first time mommy of a little (half-Pakistani ;) girl. I love your blog.

Are you going to breastfeed? If so, i really recommend that you get some lanolin ointment for your nipples. (THERE I SAID IT: "NIPPPPPLLLE"!) The delicate tissue can really get damaged and sore in the first few days when your baby is learning to latch on properly. Breastmilk is best to relieve and heal the soreness, but lanolin still makes it a little bit better. Some brands are Lansinoh or Purelan 100. I dont know if theyre available in Pakistan or not.. Maybe you could get your mom to bring you a tube from the States, just in case.

Also, i guess an extra laundry basket wouldn't hurt, ya know, exclusively for your baby's clothes. Sometimes they get all dirty and poopy from the diaper overflow and i have no idea where to throw them..cuz it's also not good to wash them together with your bras and gowns. So an extra basket comes in handy.. Oh, and an extra bucket just to wash your bras in.

LOL. I'll stop now before i overwhelm you with more bra talk. But that's all the things i wish i had after the birth.. just for convenience. My DH is always vigilant that i rub almond oil on her head and skin, like a good and proper Desi girl. hehe :)

May Allah bless you and your baby, may the birth be safe and easy. amen

Be sure to have any and all medicine ready for the baby! Also, one of those bulb syringes for suctioning. The hospitals over here give them and they are VERY handy, always keep one with you even in the diaper bag!.. Next, nail clippers for the baby. They make some special ones so you don't cut their delicate skin. I will tell you their nails grow like CRAZY!! A nail file helps greatly as well!

I could go on and on but I will be late for my 11wk checkup ;) I have an update on that on my blog!

Good luck preparing! You are nesting I think now!!! Thats wonderful!!! Hope you had a very Happy Eid!

Have your Mom bring these things for after delivery: Depends (unless you can get them in Pakistan...or something like them for the bleeding afterwards), a squirt bottle for you to use to cleanse yourself ummm..down there with bottled water (you won't want to be using anything else like tp believe me) and Dermoplast for pain for any rips or stitches. They give you all these things in the hospital here. Especially the dermoplast is a life saver. You can buy it over the counter. These are the most important things if ya ask me.
For the baby...those little t-shirts so the umbilical cord can heal without being rubbed by clothes.

taraafter deliveryi stayed at my parent's house and they cleaned my stitches like this: everyday they would boil 1L of water with salt and pour it on the stitches. It refreshes a lot and cures it very quick. The part you may not like is that you know, the salt might sting a bit, but I remember those days as the best part of the day when they refreshed me there lol. and the good thing was my ginecologist took my stitches only 7 days after delivery as they healed so good. I needed to put a cream to help the cut close properly and to avoid the skin to get so tight it would hurt you when having intercourse afterwrads. I don't know if you can get the cream there, here is called Blastoestimulina, and it worked quite well. If you can't get soemthing like that there I will send it for you from Spain, as is a must have!!!
